  • iPhone OS 3.0 Is In The Wild And It Works Flawlessly

If you’re like me and can’t wait for the iPhone 3.0 software, releasing on June 19th, then you should continue reading to get your hands on the 3.0 now.

Yup that’s right, the iPhone 3.0 software is out in the wild and it works flawlessly.  All you need is your favorite torrent site.

Gizmodo has the step by step instructions but we’ve made it even simpler (it worked for me but may not work for everyone, so do this at your own risk):

    1.    Download the file titled: iPhone OS 3.0 7s341.  It should be approximately 230MB.
    2.    Back up your iPhone.  (This is a must.  You’ll need the backup info after restore).
    3.    Go to the iPhone screen on iTunes and hold down alt (Macs) or shift (PC) as you click on the restore button.
    4.    Find the file you just downloaded and select it.  iTunes and iPhone will take care of the rest.
    5.    Once the new iPhone 3.0 software is installed, restore all your data from backup.
    6.    Your apps might be a little scattered, so just find them and enjoy!

I installed the software last night and haven’t stopped playing with it since then (the life of a gadget freak).

Some of the key features in the new software include: More Here...

  • Why Apple Will Release A Netbook Very Soon

    Macbook

Apple introduced their new new lineup of Macbook Pros today.  It's basically a 15" and 17" refresh but now with a re-branded 13".

This brings up a few questions as to what Apple  will do with the Macbook line. The 13" Macbook Pro is only $200 more than the white plastic MacBook. I would assume people will opt for the pro version since the specs are much better and includes firewire.

But there's more to this refresh. What this refresh will do for Apple is allow for a decent priced touch or netbook version of the Macbook.  The new Netbook will most likely be rebranded as the Macbook or Macbook touch.  The current priced Pros will allow Apple to completely dump the plastic MacBooks and replace it with the netbook or touch at a  $899 or $999 price point. Remember if Apple does go into the netbook foray, expect the first version to be on the expensive side i.e. The iPhone, & Macbook Air.

We all know Apple doesn't do cheap so let's not expect anything cheap from apple. This new touch or netbook will offer more features than the crop that's currently out from manufacturers such a Dell, HP Acer among others.

Netbooks are too crippled for activities beyond just surfing the web. Maybe Apple can change that with a more powerful netbook. The dropping of the unibody Macbook along with rampant rumors about an Apple netbook, makes it easy to see that Apple is preparing itself just for that. Whether or not Apple's version of the Netbook actually becomes successful, expect it to still be very popular among the Apple crowd and those looking for a better netbook experience.

  • The iPhone 3GS Features, No Revolution Here

    The New iPhone 3GS
    The New iPhone 3GS

Apple’s hyped Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) was the site of a faster, more powerful iPhone today.

Depending on who you ask, Apple picked a great day to release their new iPhone, dubbed the 3G-S or Palm picked a horrible time to launch their new phone, the Pre.

The iPhone announcement comes 2 days after Palm released what many think is the closest thing to an “iPhone killer”.  Of course many other companies have tried only to fail miserably.  Many iPhone gadgeteers and iPhone users want to know, is the new iPone any different than the current 3G model (which is also being offered for $99 in the 8GB version)? Let’s find out.

    Design:

Same as the 3G (think of evolution instead of revolution). It’s also part of Apple’s new green initiative offering arsenic-free glass, and mercury free LCD.

    Speed:

The 3GS is supposedly faster than the current 3G is 2.1 times faster launching apps (only messages was demoed)  and is 2.9 times faster launching NY Times in Safari.  Safe to say, not every site will be faster but NY Times does normally take a while to load so it’s not such a bad benchmark.

    Camera:

Apple is a finally adding video to their iPhone (it’s only been 2 longs years) with a 3 mega pixel auto focus camera.  The phone also allows for quick edits and changing of white balance and focus.

    Battery Life:

An increased battery life, still with the built in battery.

    New features:

Some of the new features Apple has decided to provide in the 3GS are:

Voice control – Now you can call anyone you like by holding the home button and saying their name.  You can also ask for song name, and give the iPod instructions.

Nike + support built in.  This was a built in feature in the 2nd generation of the iPod Touch but not 3G.

Compass application with built in magnetometer.  It’ll most likely be integrated with Maps and the new Tom Tom GPS app.

    Price:

Price for the 3GS is similar to last year’s 3G except you get more memory for the same price.

$199 for the 16 GB version and $299 for the 32 GB version. Comes in black and white and is available on June 19th in the United States, UK and Canada, while other countries have to wait till later in the year.

Macrumors is reporting that existing 3G iPhone customers might not get the new prices since the 3G was already subsidized.  ATT has released the following price review for current 3G customers.

Aren't we all excited for the new 3GS iPhone. I know I'm not upgrading at all from the 3G to the 3GS. What about you?

  • What The New iPhone Should Look Like...

This is what I would want my future iPhone to look like. (picture from Gizmodo.com)

The form factor on that bad boy is amazing. It’s slim, kept the same screen, its looks stunning. What do you think, is that effing cool or what?

  • Lil Wayne's New Song: Kobe Bryant

I don't think I've ever heard an entire rap song dedicated to one athlete.  Jay-Z has mentioned Michael Jordan in his rap songs, but Lil Wayne has taken it to another level. In dedication of Kobe in the NBA Finals, Lil Wayne has put together this song:

Personally I think it's pushing it but then again why not right? Wayne seems to be a flip flopper because he was in a Nike commercial with Lebron earlier in the year:

Ever hear an entire song dedicated to an athlete or person? Do you like the song?

  • Barack Obama Can’t Help Change Perception Of America

    Stephen Crowley/The New York Times

Barack Obama has recently gone to the Middle East and delivered a speech, met with the Prince of Saudi Arabia and all that jazz.  One of his goals was to change the perception of America in the eyes of the Muslim world.  Good luck!

It won’t happen, the same way if Prince Abdullah came to American and tried to change the Muslim perception in the eyes of Americans.  As much as, we as Americans would like to think we’re a tolerant nation, we really aren’t.  We’ve made excellent strides to move ahead in that department but haven’t really gotten there.

Muslims are feared in American no matter what some American may say or believe.  As much as I’d like to think it’s America’s fault, it’s really not but it’s not Muslim people’s fault either.  Many of them are categorized just like many Americans are put into one basket by Arab nations. And the crazy thing is it won’t change unless another group comes along that frightens this nation.  We’ve seen it with the early immigrants from Ireland, and parts of Europe, the Chinese, the Japanese, Koreans, Jews, Russians and now Muslims (mostly Arabs, or people who look like Arabs).  In time each one of these groups have become a fabric of American culture, (although Koreans have become the butt of a lot jokes because of N. Korea).  Hopefully Muslims can be one day as well.

All in all though, I hope something can come out of Obama’s trip to the Middle East.  Hopefully there will be better dialogue and won’t be ignored like Israel did when Obama asked for both Palestine and Israel to try to come to terms.

Do you think Obama’s trip and precense will make a difference in the Middle East? Why or why not?

  • Gloomy Day: People Should Smile More Often

Something about rainy days that brings people down. I’m heading to work this morning and I look around and everyone is so sad. I don’t know about you but I like semi-gloomy days. It reminds me to stay indoors and do something fun.

That’s one of the reasons why I love the winter. The weather might suck but it’s fun to sit with a nice cup of coffee, bundled up, while chatting away with friends.

In college, gloomy days were an opportunity to finish work early and get an extra nap. Haha something about those lazy days brings back good memories. Plus I went to school in the Southern Tier of New York, so the weather was always shifty until Sring rolled around. We had to find fun things to do.

I wish more people would smile on shifty days like today.

What do you do when the weather is gloomy? Do you feel down or do you find a way to make it fun?

Not sure if I'll come back to the site or not, but continue to check it out, of course the other ones as well.  Hope you enjoy the new material.

    adios!

  • Reading First Thing In The Morning

    man reading paper

When I was younger, I used to read a lot. I mean I would read 2 or 3 newspapers a day.  If I borrowed a book from the library, I was probably done with it by the end of the day.  Then came HS, and I forgot about reading. I was too consumed with being a jock, trying to do homework around basketball and girls. That’s pretty much the life for many HS kids.

In college I tried to pick up reading but after reading all the boring assigned books, I didn’t want to pick up another book for some time.

But things have changed lately.  After buying the Kindle 2, I’ve found the love for reading once again.  Coupled with the NyTimes iPhone app, the first thing I do in the morning is read the newspaper.  I can’t even brush my teeth without at least knowing what’s going around the country and world.  Of course part of that reading involves the tech section in the New York Times but also gadget sites like CNet, Gizmodo, Engadget and Macrumors.

It doesn’t take too long to browse through the sites and find something interesting.  Like I said in my intro, I’m a gadget nut.  Sometimes the reading takes too long and I end up spending close to an hour before heading off to work but I love it. The kindle offers me the convenience of carrying the books and getting info on the go.  ( I thought about subscribing to the NYTimes on the Kindle but I get it for free on the iPhone app.

What about you, are you one of those people who likes to read first thing in the morning or do you just get up and go about your business?
